In 2014 Kristof graduated as Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering, Environmental Technology, at Ghent University (Belgium). After graduating he was awarded with a fellowship from the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO - Vlaanderen) to start a PhD at the Center for Microbial Ecology and Technology (CMET, UGent). In his PhD Kristof researched Carbon Capture and Utilization strategies, focussing on the microbial production of value-added chemical commodities and feed additives from industrial CO2. After obtaining his PhD, Kristof joined ArcelorMittal Belgium to work as process engineer on the Steelanol project. In this role Kristof was involved in the basic and detailed engineering phases of the project (with a focus on the hazard and operability problem identification process and the design of preventive and mitigative safeguards). Since 2021 he was involved in the training trajectory of the Steelanol production staff, preparing the operator team for the industrial start-up in 2023. Kristof also recently took up the role as commissioning team lead for several areas in the Steelanol plant.
